The Dacin Tigers made it two wins in a row by downing Bank of Taiwan 67-52 at National Yilan University Gymnasium in Yilan last night to even their record at 2-2.
It was a big win for the Cats considering they began the season with two disappointing defeats, including lopsided losses to the Yulon Luxgens and Pure Youth Construction during the first week of play that shocked the entire league.
“It was a big win for us, even though we still had some problems on offense during the third [quarter],” Dacin skipper Chiou Da-tsong said after the game, referring to the meager nine points his troops mustered during the third quarter, which allowed the Bankers to cut a 13-point deficit to just four heading into the fourth quarter.
“We lost our concentration a little during the third,” Lin Yi-hui of the Tigers said when asked about the dismal third quarter.
His team-high 14 points led a trio of Tigers who ended the night in double digits.
Lin and company regrouped in a hurry as the Tigers outscored Bank of Taiwan by a 20-9 margin in the fourth to return the favor.
The Bankers were on the verge of setting a new low in single-game scoring (51 points) when they had only 49 points on the board with fewer than 30 seconds remaining in the game, before Chen Hsuen-shiang’s three-pointer on their final possession of the game helped them avoid further embarrassment.
Seven turnovers by the sloppy Bankers highlighted a first quarter that saw the Tigers jump to a 20-14 lead after 10 minutes of play.
The Bankers’ problems continued, though to a lesser extent, in the second quarter as the Tigers added to their lead by four to close out the first half with a sizable 38-28 advantage.
Chen Yu-chih’s seven-point spree in the third led a Bankers’ 15-9 run that brought them to within fours, but that was as close as they got as the Tigers tightened their defense to shut them down and clinch the win long before the buzzer sounded.

Former world No. 2 Paula Badosa has withdrawn from this week’s Wuhan Open, organizers said on Tuesday, amid a racism row over an online photograph. News outlets including Britain’s the Telegraph earlier reported that Badosa had posted a photo on Instagram in which she appeared to imitate a Chinese face by placing chopsticks on the corners of her eyes. The photo was taken last week in a restaurant in Beijing, where she reached the semi-finals of the
Shin Oebori coaches the Fukagawa Hawks youth baseball team in Tokyo, and he is very aware how Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani touches his players. “With Ohtani, the kids think everything is possible,” Oebori said, wrapping up practice yesterday on an all-dirt field set alongside a local Buddhist temple, below an elevated highway, and in the shadow of tall apartment blocks in central Tokyo. “Nothing is impossible with him. A dream is not a dream,” Oebori said, stepping out of the fenced practice field that keeps balls from landing on the temple grounds. None of the players hitting sponge-soft baseball has reached
