Unbeaten World Boxing Council (WBC) light welterweight champion Devon Alexander is already talking about fighting Manny Pacquiao, even though he has another foe to face first.
Alexander told the St Louis Post-Dispatch that he is looking forward to meeting Filipino superstar Pacquiao, who won a world crown in his eighth different weight class last weekend when he defeated Antonio Margarito.
Southpaw Alexander announced that his Jan. 29 title showdown against fellow unbeaten American Bradley has been moved to St Louis after plans by promoter Don King to stage the bout in Atlanta fell through.
With unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr facing legal charges and refusing to make a deal to fight Pacquiao, the winner between Alexander (21-0 with 13 knockouts) and Bradley (26-0 with 11 knockouts) could be an attractive foe for “Pac-Man.”
“Next fall, me and Pacquiao will be in the ring,” Alexander said. “I’m not saying I’m looking past Bradley, but next fall ... It’s going to be something, a kid from North St Louis fighting one of the best fighters in a mega fight.”
Bradley, who owns the lesser-regarded World Boxing Organization (WBO) title, would not take the WBC crown if he wins. That title would be vacated.
Alexander has vacated the International Boxing Federation (IBF) title he also held by selecting Bradley instead of the IBF’s mandatory challenger, South African Kaizer Mabuza.
