Jeff Carter scored his second goal of the game with 2:38 left in the third period to put Philadelphia ahead and the Flyers went on to win 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL on Monday.
Darroll Powe added an empty-netter only moments later for some insurance on the night the Flyers raised their Eastern Conference champions banner.
Claude Giroux scored a short-handed goal for the Flyers.
Brandon Yip and Milan Hejduk had scored for the Avalanche to help them rally from a 2-0 hole and tie the game.
BLACKHAWKS 4, SABRES 3
In Buffalo, Marian Hossa scored twice to help Chicago edge Buffalo.
The game was marred by a scary moment in the first period when Sabres right wing Jason Pominville was carted off on a stretcher after being hit into the boards from behind by Chicago defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson. Pominville was concussed, while Hjalmarsson was given a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct.
Nick Leddy got his first career NHL goal, and Corey Crawford shrugged off a shaky start to win his second NHL game in goal.
Patrick Kane also scored for the Blackhawks.
Drew Stafford and Derek Roy each had a goal and assist, and Tim Connolly also scored for the Sabres.
ISLANDERS 6, RANGERS 4
In Uniondale, Blake Comeau and P.A. Parenteau scored power-play goals 58 seconds apart late in the third period, rallying the Islanders over the Rangers.
Parenteau tied it with 4:24 remaining and Comeau put the Islanders in front for good with his second of the day.
Frans Nielsen added a late empty-net goal. Josh Bailey and Matt Moulson also had goals for the Islanders.
Artem Anisimov gave the Rangers a 4-3 lead with 7:14 left, but they couldn’t hold on. Brandon Dubinsky scored a power-play goal in the first period, and defensemen Michael Del Zotto and Dan Girardi connected in the second.
CAPITALS 3, SENATORS 2, OT
In Washington, Alex Ovechkin scored with 31 seconds remaining in overtime, lifting Washington over Ottawa.
Ovechkin skated down the right wing, got a half-stride on a defenseman and sent a wrist shot from the right circle past the goalie for his third goal of the season.
Alexander Semin and Eric Fehr scored for the Capitals.
Jarkko Ruutu and Ryan Shannon scored for Ottawa.
