Cruz’s first shot came in the eighth, then he went long off Chad Gaudin (0-4) for the winner.
Scott Feldman (7-10), the 11th Texas pitcher, worked the top of the 13th for the decision.
The 19 pitchers used by both teams was an AL record and one shy of the major league mark set by the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies in 2006.
New York loaded the bases with two outs in the 13th, but Chad Moeller flied out to center to end it. The Yankees also had a runner on third with one out in the 12th, but failed to score.

AP, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA
The San Francisco Giants pulled into a virtual tie with the San Diego Padres atop the National League West with a 1-0 victory on Friday.
The Padres (79-61) hold the slimmest possible lead over the Giants (80-62), .564 to .563. The Colorado Rockies are just two-and-a-half back after winning their eighth straight, against Arizona. Both San Diego and San Francisco are also just one game behind Atlanta in the wild-card race.
The sole run came in the seventh when San Diego shortstop Miguel Tejada tried to throw out Aubrey Huff at third instead of going for the out at first. Huff beat the throw to load the bases and scored on Juan Uribe’s grounder.

The 30-year-old is a national hero in Japan whose face adorns billboards and TV adverts all over the country. Ohtani this year became the first player in history to hit 50 home runs and

Three-time reigning world champion Kaori Sakamoto on Saturday led a Japanese podium sweep at Skate Canada, locking up a second straight Canadian women’s title despite two falls in her free skate. Sakamoto, who led 19-year-old American Alysa Liu after the short program, looked a little tight during her jazzy free skate, falling on a Salchow jump and again on a triple flip while fighting to hang on to a few other moves. Her second-best free skate score of 126.24 was enough for gold in the second Grand Prix event of the season in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She finished with 201.21 points, well ahead
