The Mariners have lost six of seven, fizzling after Ichiro Suzuki hit the second pitch of the game for his 31st career leadoff homer.
Luke French (0-1) allowed four runs in four innings.
Pujols broke for the plate on David Freese’s chopper to third during St Louis’ four-run fifth and was struck by Jose Lopez’s errant throw. He was helped off the field by teammate Yadier Molina after receiving treatment from a trainer, but just moments later was chatting with teammates in the dugout.
BLUE JAYS 6, PADRES
At San Diego, John Buck homered twice and Aaron Hill had three doubles and three RBIs to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-3 win over the San Diego Padres.
Play stopped momentarily in the eighth inning as Petco Park swayed during an earthquake. David Eckstein had just grounded out in the bottom of the inning when the stadium began shaking. The next batter, Chase Headley, stayed out of the batter’s box for a few seconds, then stepped in.
The public address announcer asked that everyone remain calm. The crowd cheered.
Jon Garland (6-5) allowed four runs and six hits in five innings.
He struck out seven and walked four.

BREWERS 12, ANGELS 2
At California, Ryan Braun hit a grand slam and Casey McGehee added a solo shot off the glove of a leaping Torii Hunter, leading Randy Wolf and Milwaukee to a victory over Los Angeles.
Wolf (5-6) allowed two runs and three hits in seven innings. The left-hander, who gave up a career-worst five homers in his previous start against the Cubs, retired his final 13 batters.
Joe Saunders (5-7) gave up six runs and six hits over 5-1/3 innings for Angels. The lefty is 1-6 with a 6.75 ERA in eight home starts — compared to 4-1 with a 2.45 ERA in his six outings on the road.
Hunter, a nine-time Gold Glove winner, timed his leap perfectly on McGehee’s drive to center in the sixth. However, the ball spun off the webbing of his glove and disappeared behind the center-field fence.
Angels shortstop Erick Aybar departed with a hyperextended left knee after McGehee’s straight-on slide into second in the seventh.
