Taiwan’s cricket teams will put bat on ball for one last time this weekend before a deserved summer break when they contest the PCCT Chunghwa Champions Trophy 2010 in Taipei this weekend.
Hosted by the Pakistan Cricket Club Taiwan (PCCT), the 11-a-side tournament will see seven teams from around the country battle it out for the title, including the hosts, the Pakistan Badshahs, Formosa Cricket Club (FCC), the Taipei Cricket Association (TCA), the Tainan Swingers, the Indian Cricket Club (ICC) and this year’s stand-out team, the Taiwan Southerners Cricket Club (TSCC).
The teams will be divided into two groups for the 15-over round-robin qualifying stages, with play beginning on Saturday morning at 9am and lasting until 8pm.
Group One will see the PCCT face off against the TSCC and the TCA, while Group Two will see the FCC play the Badshahs, the ICC and the Swingers.
The 18-over semi-finals, featuring the top two teams from each group, will get underway at 9am on Sunday with the decider scheduled to begin just after lunch at around 12:30pm, with the champions crowned around 4pm.
All the action will take place at the Shezi Baseball and Softball grounds (社子島棒/壘球場) off Tonghe W Street, Sec 2 (通河西街二段) beside the Tamsui River.
Taiwan’s men’s table tennis team won bronze on Saturday at this year’s International Table Tennis Federation World Team Table Tennis Championships in London, matching the country’s best-ever finish at the regular tournament. Taiwanese fire dancer Yang Li-wei advanced to the final of Britain’s Got Talent this weekend after receiving a Golden Buzzer during her live semi-final performance. Yang, a member of Taiwan’s Coming True Fire Group, awed judges and audiences with a high-intensity fire performance featuring flaming umbrellas, fire swallowing and spinning metal structures balanced with her legs.
