Lions 5, Bulls 4
The Uni-President Lions took an early 5-1 lead through the fifth and survived a three-run rally by the Sinon Bulls in the eighth to win it 5-4 at the Taichung Municipal Baseball Stadium yesterday.
The Cats managed to plate a run off Sinon starter Chang Geng-hao in each of the first three frames to enjoy a 3-0 advantage, before the home Bulls answered with a run in the bottom of the third that made it 3-1.
After Marshall McDougall’s RBI double and Wang Tzu-song’s one-run single upped the Lions’ lead to a comfortable 5-1 in the fifth, the game appeared to be theirs to win, until the Bulls came back with three runs off Lions reliever Lin Cheng-fong to fall within a run of the defending champions.
That was as close as they got, as Lion closer Lin Yueh-ping came to the rescue by recording the final six outs to preserve the win.
Picking up his fourth win of the year after a dismal 1-4 start was Lions starter Pan “Du Du” Wei-luen, who was able to even his season mark at 4-4 with seven innings of one-run ball (unearned) on five hits.
Today, The Bears face the Elephants in Tianmu at 5:05pm, while the Lions take on the Bulls in Taichung at the same time.
