Philadelphia pitcher Roy Halladay had another impressive outing as the Phillies’ boom recruit steered the team to a 7-2 win over the St Louis Cardinals in the National League on Thursday.
Halladay (6-1) allowed one earned run in seven innings. He tied a season high with nine strikeouts, and got one more out after allowing a run in the seventh.
Jayson Werth hit a three-run homer and Raul Ibanez also went long as Philadelphia took three of the last four in the series between NL divisional leaders.
St Louis starter Kyle Lohse (0-2) allowed five runs in four innings.
There was a moment of silence before the game for former Phillies pitcher Robin Roberts, who died on Thursday. The Hall of Famer’s No. 36 jersey was hung in the Philadelphia dugout and will remain there the rest of the season.

The Tampa Bay Rays won 8-0 on Thursday to complete a three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners in the American League, stretching its remarkable road record to 12-1.
Tampa Bay starter Jeff Niemann (2-0) overcame a second-inning anomaly of throwing 11 straight balls and kept Seattle scoreless as he went into the seventh inning.
Carl Crawford finished a triple short of the cycle as the Rays kept rolling on the best start in club history.
The Mariners lost their sixth straight and placed starting left fielder Milton Bradley on the restricted list while he deals with personal issues.
Seattle starter Ryan Rowland-Smith (0-2) failed to make it through the fifth, battered for six runs in his shortest outing of the season.

Taiwanese fire dancer Yang Li-wei advanced to the final of Britain’s Got Talent this weekend after receiving a Golden Buzzer during her live semi-final performance.
