US extends Curtis Cup lead
Amanda Blumenherst and Stacy Lewis each won two matches on Friday to help the US take a 4-2 lead against Great Britain & Ireland at the Curtis Cup. The US, which has not lost the amateur matches since 1996, started quickly in miserable weather on the Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland. Blumenherst and Tiffany Joh looked to be coasting in the morning foursome match by taking a 5-up lead through 12 holes until Breanne Loucks and Florentyna Parker won four of the next five. But on the 18th hole, Parker’s 6-foot birdie putt to halve the match just missed, giving the Americans a 2-1 lead after the morning session. Lewis teamed with Alison Walshe in the morning for a 3-and-1 victory. Then, Lewis teamed with Blumenherst for a 3-and-1 victory in a fourball match that ultimately gave the Americans early control of the cup. Harigae and Kimberly Kim won their fourballs match against Thomson and 15-year-old Carly Booth of Scotland.

He and Cohen have Olympic medal potential in the double sculls, overcoming a slow start to beat reigning world champions Iztok Cop and Luka Spik of Slovenia in their heat on Friday.

If the Wild finally break through and win their first playoff series in a decade, Minnesota’s top line likely will be the reason. The Wild tied the series with a 5-2 win on Tuesday. Matt Boldy had three goals and an assist in the first two games, while Kirill Kaprizov produced two goals and three assists. From a commemorative jersey to a stadium in his name, Argentine soccer organizers are planning a slew of tributes to their late “Captain” Pope Francis, eulogized as the ultimate team player. Tributes to the Argentine pontiff, a lifelong lover of the game, who died on Monday at the age of 88, have been peppered with soccer metaphors in his homeland. “Francisco. What a player,” the Argentine Football Federation (AFA) said, describing the first pope from Latin America and the southern hemisphere as a generational talent who “never hogged the ball” and who showed the world “the importance of having an Argentine captain,
The Minnesota Timberwolves, with so many promising performances spoiled by late mistakes fresh in their memory bank, sure timed this strong finish well. Jaden McDaniels scored a career playoff-high 30 points and spearheaded Minnesota’s stifling defense on an ailing Luka Doncic, and the Timberwolves beat the Los Angeles Lakers 116-104 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference first-round series in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Friday night. “Jaden never looks tired.
