Former Test legspinner Shane Warne will help to develop Australia's next generation of spin bowlers after accepting a development role with Cricket Australia.
Warne will take on a Leadership in Cricket role, working with Cricket Australia and state associations to coach and develop young spin bowlers, Cricket Australia said yesterday.
His new association with Australian cricket will see him spending time with state captains to ensure spin bowling is properly encouraged, as well as at the Cricket Australia Center of Excellence, working with all Australian men's and women's squads.
"The work I'm going to be doing with young spinners and their state captains is a really important role and I believe I've got a lot to offer," Warne, 38, said.
"I've already had some contact with some youngsters around the country, but to be able to work in a structured way with spin bowlers and their captains will hopefully give teams an even greater understanding of how to develop spin bowling talent," Warne said.
He will also join former Test captains Mark Taylor and Allan Border on Cricket Australia's Playing Conditions Committee, which scrutinizes playing conditions in Australia and makes recommendations to the International Cricket Board about the development of the game.
"I'm in a different phase of my life now and it's going to be interesting being on the other side of the table and helping to influence and shape the future direction of the game in Australia," Warne said.
Warne retired in January while holding Test cricket's wicket taking record of 708 dismissals from 145 matches.
His world mark was eclipsed by Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan earlier this month.
