Brian Gionta scored the only goal of the shootout as the New Jersey Devils beat the Atlanta Thrashers 3-2 for their seventh straight NHL win on Sunday.
Gionta, the Devils' second shooter, beat Johan Hedberg with a backhander.
Martin Brodeur, who had 23 saves in regulation, preserved the win with a glove save on Ilya Kovalchuk.

Todd White and Kovalchuk scored in regulation and Hedberg made 34 saves as the Thrashers lost for the fourth time in five games.

Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo finished with 28 saves, and his shutout streak ended at 210 minutes, 34 seconds.
Voros scored an improbable goal late in the second period, lifting a pass from Marian Gaborik over Luongo's shoulder. After passing to Marian Gaborik from below the goal line, Voros -- better known for his physical play than his stickwork -- skated to edge of the left crease and took the shot as he was being checked to the ice by Lukas Krajicek and Byron Ritchie.

At Anaheim, California, Dustin Penner provided Anaheim with a reminder of what it lost when it let him go.
While the Ducks continued to struggle to find their scoring touch, Penner scored a first period goal off a deflection as Edmonton completed a season sweep of Anaheim.
Raffi Torres, Joni Pitkanen and Tom Gilbert also scored for the Oilers who have won four of their last five games.
Mathieu Garon made 25 saves for his second shutout of the season and 12th of his career.
It was Penner's second game in Anaheim after he signed a five-year, US$21.5 million offer sheet by the Oilers in August, which the Ducks refused to match.

Robin Smith, the batter who shone for England in a period when it was beaten regularly in Test cricket, has died. He was 62. Smith’s family said in a statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that he died unexpectedly at his home in Perth, Australia, on Monday. No cause was given.
