Suzann Pettersen collected the first USLPGA title of her career on Sunday with a par on the third playoff hole of the US$2.2 million Michelob Ultra Open.
Playing the par-four 18th for the fourth straight time, Jee Young Lee appeared to be in better shape than Pettersen, with a 12-footer to win while the Norwegian faced a difficult long putt from against the fringe.
But Lee missed the 12-footer wide, then hurried her next shot and missed again from inside two feet en route to a three-putt.
"I just wanted to putt it and not have to wait," she said.
Pettersen, who had putted up to one foot, went on to make her tap-in for par to become the first Norwegian to win on the LPGA Tour.
"I just told my caddie, 'She's going to make this,'" Pettersen said. "He goes, 'Well, hopefully not.' I just had a feeling she was going to make it. That's the game of golf. It can turn around so easy, either to your advantage or against you. So finally, I was patient enough to wait for it."
The big win provided redemption for Pettersen, who earlier this season twice failed to hold leads and had to settle for second.
At the Safeway International in March, Pettersen was leading down the stretch but could not hold off Lorena Ochoa, finishing two shots off the pace.
She also was three shots up with four holes left at the Kraft Nabisco Championship the following week before ending up in a tie for second.
"Probably the experience from the Kraft Nabisco Championship did come in," she said of her calm approach to the playoff. "I just was letting it come to me."
Harry Kane opened the scoring ahead of lifting his first career silverware as Bayern Munich beat Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-0, with veteran Thomas Mueller playing his last home game for the club. Bayern officially won the title on May 4 when defending champions Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw at Freiburg, but were presented with the Bundesliga shield in front of their home fans at full-time. Dripping wet after being showered with beer by teammates, Kane said the title win was “an incredible feeling,” and hoped it would be “the first of many.” “It’s been lot of hard work, a lot of

Bayern Munich on Sunday were crowned German champions for the 34th time, giving striker Harry Kane his first major trophy, after second-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen drew 2-2 at SC Freiburg. Leverkusen were two goals down before scoring twice in the final 10 minutes, but Xabi Alonso’s side could not find a third, as Bayern reclaimed the title at the first attempt after
