Drew Stafford broke a third-period tie, Thomas Vanek had two goals and an assist and the Buffalo Sabres erased a three-goal third-period deficit to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 in the NHL on Friday.
Daniel Briere and Jason Pominville also scored for the Sabres.
Boyd Devereaux had two goals, Matt Stajan had a goal and an assist and Bryan McCabe also scored for the Maple Leafs.

Toronto failed to move up in the Eastern Conference race and remains in 11th place, two points behind Carolina for the eighth and final playoff spot.
The win gave Buffalo 103 points, breaking a tie with Nashville for the top spot in the league.
Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller finished with 40 saves.

At Chicago, Mike Weaver's power-play goal with 3:29 left in the third period snapped a tie and lifted Los Angeles.
Weaver, left open at the inside edge of the right circle, beat Chicago goalie Nikolai Khabibulin high on the glove side after taking a pass from Alexander Frolov.
Patrick O'Sullivan had a goal and assist for the Kings.
Patrick Sharp also scored for Chicago, which dropped its fourth straight.

At Edmonton, Alberta, Marty Reasoner had the lone goal in the shootout and Edmonton went on to snap a 12-game winless streak.
Marek Svatos, Brad Richardson and Joe Sakic scored in regulation for Colorado.
Ales Hemsky, Petr Sykora and Joffrey Lupul all scored goals for Edmonton.
It was also the first win for the Oilers since they sent forward Ryan Smyth to the New York Islanders at the trade deadline.
The defeat snapped a four-game winning streak for the Avalanche, but they moved within five points of Calgary for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

At Anaheim, California, Scott Niedermayer scored with 2:32 remaining in overtime and clinched a playoff for Anaheim.
With the win, the Ducks also set club records for wins (44) and points (100).
