Arturo Alvarez scored in the 86th minute on Saturday to lift FC Dallas to a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo.
FC Dallas now holds a nine-point lead over second-place Houston in the MLS Western Conference.
Alvarez took a pass from Abe Thompson and dribbled past Dynamo defender Adrian Serioux before firing a shot into the left corner of the net for his second goal of the season. Alvarez entered the game in the 64th minute as a substitute for Ramon Nunez.
Houston was forced to play much of the game a man down after Eddie Robinson received a red card in the 31st minute for violent conduct. Robinson received the red card after he hit FC Dallas forward Carlos Ruiz in the head while the two were attempting to play a long-ball in mid-air. Robinson had received a caution just seconds earlier in the 30th minute that also involved Ruiz.
In other matches, the Columbus Crew downed the New England Revolution 3-0, the Colorado Rapids edged Real Salt Lake 1-0 and the Los Angeles Galaxy overcame the Kansas City Wizards 2-1.
Jason Garey, Eddie Gaven and Ezra Hendrickson all scored at Columbus, Ohio to help the Crew beat New England.
Columbus recorded its fastest score of the season when Garey pounced on a rebound spilled by New England goalkeeper Matt Reis in the third minute.
Gaven doubled the Crew's lead with a carefully placed strike in front of goal in the 39th minute.
Defender Hendrickson sealed the win for Columbus in the 82nd minute, taking advantage of the pinball-like play inside the Revolution penalty area to fire a left-footed strike.
Nicolas Hernandez scored in the 48th minute to lift the Rapids over Real Salt Lake at Salt Lake City.
The goal was set up by Dan Gargan and was the seventh this season for Hernandez.
The win moved the Rapids into third place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of CD Chivas USA. Real Salt Lake is now three points behind Colorado in the West.
Officials issued a league-record seven yellow cards in the game.
Alan Gordon scored two goals in nine minutes to give the Galaxy a home victory over Kansas City.
Gordon broke a 1-1 tie in the 56th minute. Landon Donvan sent his free kick toward Gordon, who headed the ball into the net between defenders Jose Burciaga and Tyson Wahl for his third goal in three games.
Gordon gave Los Angeles a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute with a sliding, turning shot off Cobi Jones' crossing pass from the right flank.

Taiwanese fire dancer Yang Li-wei advanced to the final of Britain’s Got Talent this weekend after receiving a Golden Buzzer during her live semi-final performance. Yang, a member of Taiwan’s Coming True Fire Group, awed judges and audiences with a high-intensity fire performance featuring flaming umbrellas, fire swallowing and spinning metal structures balanced with her legs.
