Brazilian champion Cruzeiro was held to 1-1 draw by Mexico's Santos in the Copa Libertadores, while Coritiba of Brazil and Olimpia of Paraguay also finished even at 1-1.
Midfielder Matias Vuoso scored a second-half equalizer for Santos in Group 3 on Tuesday after striker Guilherme, playing in his fifth Copa Libertadores, put Cruzeiro ahead in the 25th minute.
Cruzeiro was outplayed during most of Tuesday's game, despite playing at home in front of nearly 13,000 fans. Santos controlled the pace of the match at Mineirao stadium, outshooting the Brazilian club 13-11.
Vuoso leveled with a powerful right-footer from outside the box in the 65th. Santos was without veteran striker Jared Borgetti, who was ejected in the team's 1-0 win against Caracas in Venezuela.
Cruzeiro still leads the group with seven points from three games. Santos is second with five points while Chile's Universidad de Concepcion, which played twice, has one. Venezuela's Caracas trails with zero points after two matches.
Cruzeiro and Santos meet again in the next round in Torreon, Mexico.
In Curitiba, Brazil, midfielder Capixaba put Coritiba ahead with a header in the 20th minute, but playmaker David Villalba netted the equalizer for the 2002 Copa Libertadores champions with a right-footer from inside the box in the 43rd.
Playing at home and desperately needing to win, Coritiba pressured from the start. The Brazilian team outshot Olimpia 21-5 at Couto Pereira stadium, but failed to capitalize on its scoring opportunities.
The Brazilians played without Colombia international Victor Aristizabal. The striker was expected to make his debut against the Paraguayans, but he has yet to fully recover from knee surgery.
Coritiba and Olimpia now have one point from two games in Group 9, while Sporting Cristal of Peru and Rosario Central of Argentina, which have played only once, have three points each.
