Jeff Friesen scored his third goal in four games early in the third period to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Sunday night.
Martin Brodeur made 24 saves, including a spectacular tumbling stop on Frantisek Kaberle in the second period, and Grant Marshall scored a goal and set up another by Patrik Elias to help the Devils win for the fourth time (4-1-1) in six games.
Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 26th goal of the season and Jeff Cowan added another for Atlanta, which lost for the second time in two nights.

Canucks 4, Predators 1
In Vancouver, British Columbia, Canucks defenseman Brent Sopel scored twice and added an assist in a win over Nashville.
Henrik Sedin and Todd Bertuzzi also scored, and Markus Naslund had three assists to help the Canucks win at home in regulation for the first time since Nov. 8.
The victory was tempered by the loss of star defenseman Ed Jovanovski to a sprained right shoulder early in the first period.

Aaliyah Edwards on Monday pulled off the stunner of the opening round of the Unrivaled one-on-one tournament, beating top-seeded Breanna Stewart 12-0. The tournament to be played over three days featured 23 of the WNBA’s 36 players. A few had other commitments and a couple others were out with injuries.
