Brian Leetch scored the other goal for the Rangers, who lost a big point on Monday night when they lost to the Atlanta Thrashers in overtime in New York.
Alexei Yashin scored a goal and an assist for the Islanders, while Garth Snow made 35 saves.

In Ottawa, Marian Hossa scored a pair of goals to give the Ottawa Senators a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins.
Hossa broke Alexei Yashin's club record for goals in a season with his 44th and 45th of the season as the Senators won their 50th game of the season, leading the overall points race with 109.
Martin Havlat added a goal and an assist while Radek Bonk had two assists.
Martin Lapointe and Glen Murray scored for the Bruins, who are winless in three games.
Flyers 4 Blue Jackets 0
In Philadelphia, Roman Cechmanek had to make just 10 saves to post his sixth shutout of the season as the Flyers blanked the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-0.
Kim Johnsson, Jeremy Roenick, Mark Recchi and Radovan Somik scored the Flyers goals as Philadelphia moved to within one point of first place New Jersey in the Atlantic Division.
The Flyers are unbeaten in six games.
Capitals 3 Panthers 0
In Washington, Olaf Kolzig made 31 saves to post his fourth shutout of the season as the Capitals beat the Florida Panthers 3-0.
Sergei Gonchar had a goal and an assist for the Capitals, while Michael Nylander and Robert Lang added singles.
Jaromir Jagr added two assists.
Roberto Luongo made 30 saves for the Panthers, now winless in seven games.
Mighty Ducks 2 Predators 1 (OT)
In Nashville, Steve Thomas scored the game-winner with 52.6 seconds left in overtime to give the Anaheim Mighty Ducks a 2-1 win over the Predators.
Thomas scored the other Ducks goal as well and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 39 saves as Anaheim won its fourth straight game.
Scott Hartnell scored the lone goal for the Predators, winless in 13 games.
Maple Leafs 3 Devils 2 (OT)
In East Rutherford, Ed Belfour made 37 saves to post his 400th career win and Tomas Kaberle scored in overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 3-2 win over the New Jersey Devils.
Mats Sundin scored his 299th goal as a Maple Leaf as Toronto won its third straight game.
Kaberle also had two assists, while Wade Belak scored the other Toronto goal.
Jamie Langenbrunner had a goal and an assist for the Devils.
