Jaromir Jagr scored three times, giving him 500 career goals, as the Washington Capitals beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1 Tuesday.
Jagr became the 33rd NHL player to reach the milestone when he scored his third goal of the game at 7:19 of the second period, a shot from the top of the right circle during a power play.

Jagr's 30th goal of the season gave him 11 career hat tricks. He is the 16th player to reach 500 goals in less than 1,000 games, doing it in 926.
Peter Bondra and Mike Grier had the other Washington goals, and Olaf Kolzig made 27 saves. The Southeast Division-leading Capitals have a five-point lead over Tampa Bay.

Avalanche 3, Bruins 2, OT
In Boston, Greg de Vries scored with 42.3 seconds remaining in overtime and Patrick Roy stopped 28 shots as Colorado extended its recent dominance of Boston.
The Bruins forced overtime when Mike Knuble scored with 3:21 left in the third period on a pass from Glen Murray.
Colorado pushed its unbeaten streak to six games, matching its longest of the season. The Avalanche are 6-1-1 in their last eight games against Boston.
Scott Parker and Peter Forsberg also scored for Colorado.
Flyers 2, Islanders 1
In Uniondale, New York, Mark Recchi scored a rare power-play goal for Philadelphia with 9:56 remaining to lift the Flyers over New York.
Roman Cechmanek gave up an early goal to Roman Hamrlik but made 28 saves to earn the victory. Jeremy Roenick scored 4:35 into the game for Philadelphia, which snapped its season-worst four-game losing streak.
The Flyers scored only two goals during their losing streak, getting shut out twice.
Philadelphia has only 26 power-play goals in 209 chances this season, leaving the Flyers with the NHL's third-worst unit.
DiPietro finished with 30 saves in just his fourth game this season.
Canucks 3, Penguins 2
In Pittsburgh, Henrik Sedin and Matt Cooke scored on successive first-period shots as Vancouver held on to beat Pittsburgh and ruin Mario Lemieux's return to the lineup.
Lemieux, the NHL scoring leader, missed all but 3:53 of the Penguins' previous 11 games with a groin injury. He assisted on Alexei Kovalev's second-period goal while playing his first full game since Jan. 4.
Kovalev, the subject of constant trade speculation, scored twice for Pittsburgh, which has won just one of its last seven games (1-5-1).
Mats Lindgren also scored for Vancouver, which won its second consecutive game at Mellon Arena after going 12 seasons without a win in Pittsburgh.
Devils 4, Sabres 1
In East Rutherford, New Jersey, Joe Nieuwendyk scored twice, and Patrik Elias had a goal and an assist as New Jersey beat struggling Buffalo for its eighth consecutive home win.
Defenseman Tommy Albelin added his first goal and Corey Schwab made 19 saves for the Devils, who came out of the All-Star break playing just as well as they went into it.
The victory was the 16th in the last 22 games (16-3-2-1) for New Jersey, which is tied with Ottawa for first place overall in the Eastern Conference.
Predators 5, Red Wings 5
In Detroit, Denis Arkhipov's goal in the final 3:12 of regulation gave Nashville a tie with Detroit.
Kimmo Timonen scored twice, and Mark Eaton and David Legwand had the other goals for the Predators.
Henrik Zetterberg, Kris Draper, Brendan Shanahan, Luc Robitaille and Pavel Datsyuk scored for the Red Wings, who are winless in their last four games (0-2-2).
Detroit's Brett Hull remained at 699 career goals for the fifth straight game.
