Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance, Paul McGinley and Ian Woosnam will join the US$1.5 million tournament at the Ta Shee Golf and Country Club, in suburban Taipei, which begins Nov. 21.
Defending champion Jarmo Sandelin, big-hitting American John Daly, Asian star Thongchai Jaidee and top players from both the European and Asian PGA Tours will also attend.
Despite the powerful field, golf fans will miss the "Big Easy." The South African star opted to travel home from the Tour early after an exhausting but successful season.
Els decided to be with his wife Liezl, who gave birth to a baby boy in October. "I feel very sorry for all my fans in Taiwan, as I have a special relationship with Ta Shee and the golf fans in Taiwan. But I am sure that they will understand my desire to be with my family," Els said.
