She first attended the inauguration of Nicaraguan President Enrique Bolanos Geyer and then proceeded to Paraguay, Taiwan's sole diplomatic ally in South America.
On her way to Managua from Taipei, Lu made a three-day transit stop in New York, where she conferred with US congressmen and business leaders as well as representatives from the Chinese community there.
She stayed in Los Angeles for two days on her way back to Taipei.
The vice president said that her trip played a "decisive role" in cementing Taiwan's relations with Paraguay.
She described her trip as "completely successful, well-received" and a breakthrough.

He added that Lu also took advantage of the transit stops in New York on the east coast and Los Angeles on the west coast to encourage US enterprises to invest in Taiwan.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA) yesterday said it expected to issue a sea warning for Typhoon Fung-Wong tomorrow, which it said would possibly make landfall near central Taiwan. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) yesterday said it is expected to issue a sea warning for Typhoon Fung-wong this afternoon and a land warning tomorrow. As of 1pm, the storm was about 1,070km southeast of Oluanpi (鵝鑾鼻), Taiwan’s southernmost point, and was moving west-northwest at 28 to 32kph, according to CWA data.
