Police are investigating the case of three dead bodies found in a car in Taichung yesterday and thought to have died accidentally of carbon monoxide poisoning.
The bodies were found by a passerby surnamed Chao (
The car's doors were locked, the engine was still running and the windshield wipers were operating, though at the time there was no rain.
According to preliminary investigations, the deceased were identified as Chen Zheng-chi (
Police have called on relatives to identify the bodies. The three bodies are said to be from the same family in the township of Homei (
Reports said there was no evidence of any injuries.
Chao and his child had gone on a sightseeing tour of Tatu mountain (
As it wasn't raining at the time, Chao went over to see if anything was wrong.
He found the car locked with a man in the driver's seat and two women in the back.
At first he didn't realize anything was amiss, but gradually it dawned on him that there was no movement in the car and Chao investigated further.
After rapping on the car window, without any response, Chao decided to report the case to the police.
Police think the family had probably gone to Wanggaoliao the previous evening to enjoy the view.
It is suspected that the three were accidentally poisoned by carbon monoxide poisoning from the car's exhaust, as the car windows were shut, probably because it was raining at the time, hence the still operating wipers.
The cause of death will be investigated by prosecutors and coroners.
