Four consortia have announced their intention to compete for fixed network telecommunication (FNT) licenses, transportation minister Lin Fong-cheng (
Taiwan Fixed Network Tele-com, SaveCom InfoCom Inc, New Century Infocom and Eastern Tele-com Group have all submitted letters of intent, before this Thursday's deadline.
Lin also briefed legislators on the Taiwan Railway Administration's divestment of NT$8 billion in railway properties for Eastern Tele-com Group to build a nationwide fiber network.
Legislators criticized the act as one that profits the consortium and underestimates the values of national properties.
The railway company's director Chen Teh-pei (3紡w沛) denied the accusation. He said the company's disposal of properties along the railway would not be sold at below their market value of NT$8 billion.
Democratic Progressive Party legislators Wang To (?y援Y? and Tsai Huang-lang (1/22?瑯) probed further the railway company's financial involvement with Eastern Tele-com Group.
They were told the railway company has a 20 percent shareholding in the Eastern Tele-com Group, for which it paid NT$2.4 billion.
