Political campaigns are not what they used to be, what with Web sites, e-mail mailing lists and other Internet-related strategies turning candidates into high-tech adversaries.
Yesterday, DPP presidential candidate Chen Shui-bian (3?糮? released a revised Web site during a press conference in Taipei, telling reporters and Web surfers alike: "E-mail me at www.abian.net and tell me who should be in my Cabinet."
Governments in the Internet age will draw on the collective input of Netizens from all regions of the country, and Chen says his door is open to everyone. One version of his Web site is in Chinese, one is in English and one is in simplified characters for surfers in China. The homepage includes a list of his political accomplishments, photos of his career and updates on the presidential campaign. And, he noted, campaign donations will be gladly accepted via the Internet, too.

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake and several aftershocks battered southern Taiwan early this morning, causing houses and roads to collapse and leaving dozens injured and 50 people isolated in their village. A total of 26 people were reported injured and sent to hospitals due to the earthquake as of late this morning, according to the latest Ministry of Health and Welfare figures.
