Earlier this month, TransAsia Airways’ executive board decided to merge with their subsidiary company, V Air.
V Air, which employs approximately 250 people, has already made a series of redundancies, with approximately 20 members of staff laid off in the short term. Management from TransAsia Airways and V Air are due to make a final decision on staffing levels before the end of the month.
V Air, which has been operating for less than two years, has made losses of nearly NT$1 billion. Following the announcement of a merger with TransAsia Airways, there has been a succession of voluntary resignations among its employees, who have chosen not to wait for the results of the redundancy process. V Air has announced it has already let go of approximately 20 pilots and cabin crew that have not yet started training, because their positions will not be needed in the future.

V Air has indicated that, following the merger, adjustments will be made to staffing levels and that not all V Air employees will be able to transfer to TransAsia Airways. The airline expects staffing requirements will be clear by the end of the month, after which time the company will enter into a consultation process with employees to discuss their futures with the company.
