A woman surnamed Chen recently walked into the Datong station of the Pingtung County police precinct to report a crime. She said that she believed somebody had broken into her house, coming in through the back door and stealing a purse containing NT$60,000 from a mutual-aid fund, and wanted the police to help. The police went to the scene to investigate and, having ascertained that there were no traces of a break-in, the officers went along the rear firebreak alley to see if the criminal had left behind any suspicious material evidence, and also to check out the thief’s escape route. Again, they found nothing.
When they passed the entrance to the firebreak alley, they discovered that a neighbor had installed a surveillance camera. They then had the owner of the next-door apartment check the surveillance equipment to make sure that nothing suspicious had happened in the alley. The forensics team then came over, but found nothing suspicious. After spending all this time searching around, they discovered that the purse had been shoved under the cushion of a seat in the living room. On seeing that her purse had been found and the money was still safely within, Chen kept embracing the police to express her gratitude and apologized for having the police spend so much time and effort searching because of her own carelessness.

屏東警分局大同派出所前天接獲陳姓女民眾到派出所報案，指住家疑似遭小偷從後門侵入，偷走皮包，內有六萬元的互助會款，希望警方協助，警方抵達現場勘查，初步認為沒有遭人破壞跡象，員警於是沿著後門防火巷內尋找歹徒所遺留的可疑跡證及歹徒行竊路線，也沒有發現。

經過防火巷口時發現鄰居裝設有攝影機，於是向鄰居屋主調閱監視器，確認防火巷並無可疑之處，鑑識組進行採證，也未發現有可疑跡證，經過一番的努力搜尋後，竟然發現皮包被壓在客廳椅子的枕頭下方，被害人檢視包包內現金均在，不斷的抱住警方表達謝意，也對自己的疏失大意造成警方大動作尋找深感抱歉。
