On Wednesday morning last week, a 55-year-old disabled man surnamed Tsai went to Kaohsiung City Hall to apply for rental assistance, but, when leaving, he did not notice the two two-meter-high glass doors and crashed into them with his electric mobility scooter, breaking the glass and scaring other people who were handling their affairs nearby. Tsai was also scared almost to the point of crying, but luckily no one was injured.
At about 11am last Wednesday, a loud noise was heard at the main entrance of the Kaohsiung City Hall Siwei Administrative Center. It turned out that a disabled man surnamed Tsai had accidentally driven his mobility scooter into the glass doors, suddenly leaving the floor covered with broken glass. The basket on the front of Tsai’s scooter was full of glass and he had a big fright.
Tsai innocently explained that the glass door was too transparent, so he thought it was open and drove straight into it. He had gone to the city hall to apply for rental assistance, and as he was hurrying back to his residence in Sanmin District, he crashed into the glass door without noticing it was there, he said.

Hsieh Ting-sung, director of Kaohsiung City Hall’s Joint Services Center, went to comfort Tsai. Hsieh agreed that the glass was wiped too clean, which led to Tsai crashing into it.
The Kaohsiung City Secretariat said that as long as the person involved is confirmed to have acted unintentionally, the city will not make any claims, and will conduct a comprehensive review of the doors and apply identifying markers to prevent a similar situation from happening again. Kaohsiung City Information Bureau Director-General Ting Yun-kung said that the city will continue to improve construction of handicapped-accessible spaces and seek more actively to understand the needs of the disabled.

一名五十五歲蔡姓身障男子上週三上午到高雄市政府申請租屋補助，離去時未注意到玻璃門，駕駛電動車直接撞上，二片約二公尺高的玻璃門應聲破碎，嚇壞附近洽公民眾，蔡男也嚇得差點哭出來，所幸未有人員受傷。
上週三上午近十一時，高雄市政府四維行政中心正大門傳來巨響，原來是蔡姓身障男子駕駛電動車不慎撞破玻璃大門，頓時滿地碎玻璃，電動車前方置物籃全是玻璃，蔡男自己也嚇一大跳。
蔡男無辜表示，玻璃門太透明了，他以為玻璃門是開著，就直接撞上去。他到市府申請租屋補助，趕著要回三民區的住處，沒注意到玻璃門就撞上去了。
市府聯合服務中心主任謝汀嵩也到場安撫蔡男，並表示市府玻璃擦得太乾淨了，才導致蔡不注意撞破玻璃。
市府秘書處表示，只要確認當事人非蓄意，並不會求償，未來會全面檢視玻璃門並增設識別標誌，避免類似狀況再發生。高市新聞局長丁允恭也指出，市府會持續提升無障礙空間的建構，也會更積極了解身障朋友的需求。
