The Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation has announced that it is to add three new stations – Miaoli, Changhua and Yunlin –
by the end of December. Many have expressed concerns that this may increase the journey time between Taipei and Kaohsiung, but it is understood that this journey will not be influenced by the addition of the three stations.
Construction of the new stations at Miaoli, Changhua and Yunlin is expected to be completed by July, with the new stations being put into service in December. Services on the route between Taipei and Kaohsiung, with the most departures, will not be affected. The current direct route between Taipei and Kaohsiung, calling at Banciao and Taichung, takes 96 minutes, and this will not change in future. The extended travel time will, however, present some technical issues regarding journey scheduling.
