It is gradually getting colder, and the atmosphere in Pingtung County’s Wanjin Village is getting more and more Christmasy. On Tuesday, Pingtung County Commissioner Tsao Chi-hung got dressed up as a shepherd, and appeared with a flock of sheep art installation at the Wanjin Catholic Church. For the launch of the Christmas season, a 13-meter-tall steel rose Christmas tree will be lit up at 6:30 this evening.
According to the Pingtung County Information and Tourism Department, this year the county government especially invited Tang Kuo-chieh, who oversaw the implementation of the Taipei 101 fireworks display, to be responsible for the special effects design for the turning on of the lights. When the lights are turned on, the rose Christmas tree will also spray out a rose fragrance mist, for the three senses of vision, hearing and smell.

A Cameroon-flagged cargo vessel “Shunxin-39” was believed to have caused damage to an undersea cable of Taiwan telecoms operator Chunghwa Telecom on the morning of Jan. 3.
