Hengchun Folk Music Festival is about to close. Coretronic Culture and Arts Foundation, which last year successfully bestowed splendor and elegance on Fengshen Temple and the Jieguan Pavilion in Greater Tainan, has brought world-class lighting design to Hengchun, transforming the old city. When the lights were first turned on on Oct. 22, the beautiful lighting made old city in the night more alluring than ever.
The historic buildings of Hengchun old city, bathed in specially designed lighting, exuded beauty. The light emanated from the battlements, illuminating the texture on the old mottled walls and matching the ancient sounds of the moon lute. The complementary sounds and lighting created a magical and romantic atmosphere. Many visitors said that when the lights were turned on, they were transported to an earlier time and that no one would want to pass through time by walking through the gate.
Pingtung County Commissioner Tsao Chi-hung, who was moved by the attractive lighting when he participated in the revamping of the lighting at Fengshen Temple last year, repeatedly extended invitations to the Coretronic Culture and Arts Foundation to Pingtung and by the end of the year, his wish was finally fulfilled. Young light artists such as Liu Kuan-hung, Chen Teh-ping, Chiang Chi-yang, Huang Chun-fang, Lin Ching-yu and Chen Yi-chang used lamp light, installations and the expertise of architects, lighting and space designers to complete the design in a little under one week.

Bilingual Story is a fictionalized account. Just yesterday, the boy had helped hang the lucky red couplets. Tonight, as firecrackers signaled the New Year, he lay in bed burning with a surging fever. The herbalist checked the boy’s pulse and went still. “The only cure is in the county town across the mountains,” he said. “But the snow is deep, and the shops are shuttered until the Fourth Day.” The boy’s father looked at the window. “I will go.” “The roads are impassable for a cart,” the herbalist warned. “And too far for a man on foot.” The concerned neighbor
Many animals spend the winter in a deep, low-energy state known as “hibernation.” When food becomes scarce and cold conditions drain body heat, bats, hedgehogs, and some ground squirrels retreat to safe shelters. Their bodies slow down to save energy: heart rates drop, breathing becomes shallow, and body temperature falls. Plenty of preparation goes into hibernation. Shorter days and falling temperatures provoke these animals to eat more and store fat, which sustains the brain and other organs. Inside the body, hormones guide this seasonal change, triggering specific behavior and switching the system to energy-saving mode. Hibernation is not the only winter survival
