The Taipei Zoo has successfully bred a Canadian beaver for the first time ever. The baby is the first offspring of mother beaver Ronna and father beaver Robin, who have been together for three years. The beaver cub was born on June 10. Its eyes are open, the incisors have come in and it bears a striking resemblance to its mother when mimicking her chewing tree branches. Evidently the little one is a natural dam builder too.
The zoo says that beavers are found mostly in North America. Beavers have webbed hind feet and their tails are scaly, broad and flat, with very little fur. The zoo’s newborn beaver has a relatively big head and one molar has come in on both sides of the top of the cub’s mouth with two molars on both sides of the bottom. He has learned how to gnaw on tree branches and plays in the water of a small fountain. Data shows that baby beavers typically learn how to swim within the first 24 hours after being born and stop breastfeeding after around two weeks.
Interestingly, the zoo says that Ronna and Robin always sleep together in their lodge during the day and Ronna occasionally goes for a swim alone at dusk. Even the conservationists at the zoo have never seen the nocturnal creatures making love. On June 10 it was discovered upon closer observation that Ronna was unwilling to do anything outdoors because she had given birth to a baby beaver. It is impossible to determine the sex of a beaver by looking at it, so the baby’s sex is not known at this point.

Three days after it was born, the beaver was able to leave the cage and learn from its mother how to gnaw on tree branches. The mother kept cautiously picking her baby up with her mouth to take it back, and every time the mother left the lodge it would take advantage of the opportunity to sneak out again.

The US-Israeli war with Iran, which began on Feb. 28, has killed thousands of people, destabilized the Middle East and rocked global energy markets by effectively closing the strait. WHAT IS THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ? Lying between Oman and Iran and linking the Gulf north of it with the Gulf of Oman to the south and the Arabian Sea beyond, the strait is 33km wide at its narrowest point, with a shipping lane just 3km wide in either direction. Perhaps the world’s most important energy shipping channel, the waterway is about 167km long. Following through on an old threat, Tehran effectively closed the strait
When you twist open a bottle of carbonated water, bubbles rush out with a hissing sound. This drink is simply water infused with carbon dioxide (CO2) under pressure, giving it that fizz on your tongue. But this basic description barely scratches the surface of the carbonated water family. Although all carbonated waters are bubbly, slight differences set them apart. Seltzer is just plain water with artificial CO2—no minerals, no extras. Club soda includes added minerals such as sodium bicarbonate, which creates a slightly salty flavor. This makes club soda suitable for mixing with fruit juices. Sparkling water, on the
