Last Sunday, the Miaoli County government organized a bicycle tour to mark the opening of the “Green Light, Sea Breeze” coastline bike paths in Miaoli County — a total of 68.5km of bike paths linking the county’s four coastal townships, Jhunan, Houlong, Tongsiao, and Yuanli. The event attracted a huge crowd of cyclists who wanted to get a taste of Miaoli County’s beautiful coastal scenery.
The coastline bike paths running from north to south pass by many tourist attractions such as Chiding Beach, Longfeng Fishing Harbor, Coastal Forest Park, Mangroves Ecological Reserve, Waipu Fishing Harbor, Guogang Shell Fossil Geological Area, the Cape of Good Hope, Shilian Garden Train Restaurant, Chiumao Park, Yuanli Fishing Harbor, Heart Carving House, and Fangli Old Street. So, last Sunday, a large group of bicycle enthusiasts of all ages took part in the ride. After the whistle was blown, everyone set off, joined by Miaoli County Commissioner Liu Cheng-hung and Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Hsu Yao-chang.
In a speech, Liu thanked the Cabinet’s Sports Affairs Council and the Ministry of the Interior’s Construction and Planning Agency for providing financial subsidies amounting to NT$300 million for the construction of the bike paths, which have not only provided a leisurely, enjoyable riding experience along the coast, but also boosted the tourism industry in the county’s four coastal townships.

In 2023, an 80-year-old woman in Taipei suffocated her paralyzed son after over five decades of caring for him. Turning herself in immediately, she confessed that worsening health and anxiety about who would care for him after her death had driven her to act.
