Feast or famine at Aunt Grizelda’s cottage
Mark and Kathleen had been traveling for over three hours on a tiny scooter, and had finally arrived at the cottage where Kathleen’s Aunt Grizelda lived. The entire cottage was made of food. There was a mushroom door, a corncob chimney and the roof was made of pasta. They were both amazed. Aunt Grizelda was waiting at the door of her cottage, and she gave them both a big hug as they entered the house.
“I bet you’re both starving,” she said with a big smile. Mark and Kathleen nodded their heads in agreement. “Luckily for you two I’ve been doing some cooking! Go and take a seat — the food will be ready soon.”
Less than a minute later she was back with a tray of donuts. Mark reached over and grabbed one. As he bit into the donut, egg yolk squirted out the sides. “It’s an egg donut. It’s my own secret recipe. I hope you like it,” said Aunt Grizelda. Mark felt sick, but he didn’t want to be rude so he nodded his head. “You can eat mine, too!” said Kathleen quickly, sliding her donuts over to Mark.
For the main course Aunt Grizelda brought out a pizza. As she laid it down on the table, a look of horror spread across Mark and Kathleen’s faces. Apart from a tiny bit of cheese, it was covered in nothing but chili peppers. Kathleen picked up a knife and cut off a tiny piece of pizza. As soon as the pizza hit her tongue, it felt like a volcano had erupted in her mouth. “Wooh! That’s a bit spicy for me,” she said, grabbing a glass of water.
10 glasses of water later, and they had finished the chili pizza. But Aunt Grizelda had one more surprise. “I’m so glad you came for lunch. But before you go, I have one more special treat for you…”

Floods that killed more than 200 people in eastern Spain last week were caused by a storm that dumped a year’s worth of rainfall in less than 24 hours. The tragedy has raised questions about whether earlier warnings could have prevented so many deaths, while the widespread damage shows how many cities are not adapted to withstand rainfall amplified by climate change. An extremely hot Mediterranean and warmer air temperatures exacerbated a type of storm system becoming more common in the Iberian peninsula due to global warming. Experts said that a building boom in the region in recent decades might have put
