A star circus clown got his custom-made mini-bike back on Apr. 1, a few days after it went missing on a New York street.
Bello Nock, the star daredevil clown of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, had made pleas in the media for the return of the 30cm-high, 5cm-wide contraption, and a US$1,000 (NT$33,000) reward was offered.
Rickey Robinson found the “bitty bike” outside a restaurant Friday night on Manhattan's west side, not far from Madison Square Garden, where the circus is performing. After reading about it in the newspaper, he brought the bike to the circus Sunday morning.
“I didn't know what it was,” Robinson said. “I didn't know how anybody rides it.”
Bello lost the bike Friday when he and other clowns were doing an impromptu street show. He leaned it against another bike, and by the time he realized he had left it behind, it was gone.
“Give me a hug. I need my bike. That is my bike. Thank you, buddy,” the clown told Robinson, who did not know how the bike got to where he found it.
In exchange for returning the bike, Robinson, 54, will receive the NT$33,000 reward, a new bicycle donated by Toys R Us, free tickets to Knicks NBA basketball games and tickets to a circus show.
Bello, a seventh-generation circus performer, was “very upset” when he lost the bike, a family heirloom built by a man in Mexico. It took him six months to learn how to ride it.
“I can't tell you how happy I am to have it back,” he said. (AP)
