Today is going to be great!” Kathleen said, jumping out of bed. “Come on, sleepyhead! Get up!”
Mark sat up in bed, rubbing his eyes. “Why, what’s today?”
“Today is the day we tour the island,” Kathleen said excitedly. “We can go diving and snorkeling; we’ll climb to the top of the mountain in the national park ... we can even go swimming in a lake where there is a waterfall!”
Mark thought a lot of these things sounded a little dangerous, but Kathleen was so happy about it that he couldn’t help but smile. “Okay,” he said. “I guess I should wear my swimsuit.”
The two friends set out for the park. They were hiking on a big trail when they saw something interesting in the clearing ahead of them. “Wait a minute,” said Mark. “What’s going on over there?”
“Elephants!” Kathleen shouted. “They’re riding elephants!”
Mark and Kathleen walked toward the clearing. Sure enough, people were sitting on the elephants’ backs, and some of the elephants were carrying two or three people!
“Wow,” said Kathleen. “That looks like fun. How many people do you think you could carry, Mark? Mark?”
“Kathleen!” Mark yelled from behind her.
Kathleen turned around to talk to him and got a big surprise. Two small children had wandered over and they were trying to climb onto Mark’s back! Mark looked at Kathleen with nervous eyes. “What am I supposed to do?!” he cried.

Earthquakes are among the most terrifying natural disasters, generating massive tremors and destructive forces as Earth’s crust shudders. These tremors not only lead to the collapse of buildings but can also trigger secondary disasters, such as tsunamis and fires. However, we can mitigate the impact on lives and property by mastering earthquake response techniques. The DCH three-step strategy, recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is crucial during an earthquake. “D” stands for “drop.” You should immediately drop to the ground, using your hands and knees to support yourself. This position prevents you from falling and
