A nursing student attending a summer camp organized by the Ministry of National Defense (MND) could soon become the cover girl for a ministry publication.
Peng Hsin-ju (彭歆茹), who will begin her third year in the nursing department at Hsin Sheng College for Medical Care and Management in Taoyuan County, signed up for an MND-sponsored summer camp aimed at recruiting more students.
Courses at the summer camp include vegetation identification, tree house building, snake identification and war tunnel practice.

The camp has become a popular event with young students — one has even joined the event for three years running.
Peng caught the eye of many participants at the camp because of the sweet look on her face, an unnamed military officer said.
During the course, Peng had her picture taken with a snake around her neck, but her trademark smile remained.
As the picture became a popular download soon after it was posted online, the military officer said they could consider using it on the cover of a ministry publication, if Peng agreed.
Meanwhile, in an effort to recruit more young people, the MND has designed a frogwoman figurine.
The frogwoman will be wearing red frogman shorts, a blue tank top, white shoes and holding a pistol.
Last year, the MND designed its first-generation female officer figurine, in an air force pilot outfit. It became an instant hit among collectors.
The MND expects the new frogwoman figurine to become a hit as well.

More than 500 people on Saturday marched in New York in support of Taiwan’s entry to the UN, significantly more people than previous years. The march, coinciding with the ongoing 79th session of the UN General Assembly, comes close on the heels of growing international discourse regarding the meaning of UN Resolution 2758. Resolution 2758, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1971, recognizes the People’s Republic of China (PRC) as the “only lawful representative of China.” It resulted in the Republic of China (ROC) losing its seat at the UN to the PRC. Taiwan has since been excluded from
