The 25th annual Taiwan Culinary Exhibition starts today at the Taipei World Trade Center. The four-day event which draws foodies from around the world will showcase different styles of Taiwanese cooking including Hakka cuisine and delicacies from various Aboriginal groups.
This year’s theme is “pure flavors,” or food that uses local ingredients, because apparently, that’s trendy these days.
There will also be exhibitions on street food and bento boxes, or the Japanese-style lunchboxes which have long been a staple of fast food culture in Taiwan. If, for whatever reason, you aren’t interested in eating, there will also be a display of tableware and utensils, as well as a cooking contest among Taiwanese and international chefs in which the idea is to use local ingredients in their dishes.

Lines between cop and criminal get murky in Joe Carnahan’s The Rip, a crime thriller set across one foggy Miami night, starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Damon and Affleck, of course, are so closely associated with Boston — most recently they produced the 2024 heist movie The Instigators there — that a detour to South Florida puts them, a little awkwardly, in an entirely different movie landscape.
