The Bollands
Indie folk duo The Bollands are returning to Taiwan for a summer tour this month. The New Zealand foot-stomping duo have toured Taiwan on several occasions over the past few years and have gained a reputation for their passion filled live shows and soaring folk songs.
They will be playing new songs and performing with other local bands throughout the nation. The tour kicks off tomorrow at Taipei’s Sappho Live Jazz, and then they travel south for gigs at the Goat Restaurant & Bar (山羊飯館) in Hengchun, Tiehua Music Village (鐵花村) in Taitung, Wakeup Music Festival in Chiayi and Rocks Livehouse in Kaohsiung. In 2020, a labor attache from the Philippines in Taipei sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanding that a Filipina worker accused of “cyber-libel” against then-president Rodrigo Duterte be deported. The recent decline in average room rates is undoubtedly bad news for Taiwan’s hoteliers and homestay operators, but this downturn shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. According to statistics published by the Tourism Administration (TA) on March 3, the average cost of a one-night stay in a hotel last year was NT$2,960, down 1.17 percent compared to 2023.
