Amtran Technology Co (瑞軒), which makes slim-screen TVs for Xiaomi Corp (小米) and Vizio Inc, yesterday posted 71 percent sequential growth in revenue for last quarter, thanks to a surge in LCD TV shipments.
Amtran said it expects the growth momentum to extend into the second half of this year as customers from the US and China roll out new TV models to cope with holiday seasons.
New customers would also help increase shipments, the company said.
“The third and fourth quarters are the industry’s peak season as customers are building up inventory for holiday sales during Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays,” Amtran said in a statement.
Shipments usually jumped 50 percent in the second half from the first half, based on the historical record, Amtran said.
Benefiting from the ongoing uptrend, Amtran’s “shipments and revenues will grow at a significant pace” in the second half from the same period last year, the company said.
Last month, revenues grew for a fifth consecutive month to NT$2.88 billion (US$89.2 million), up 36.49 percent from NT$2.11 billion in May.
In the quarter ended on Thursday last week, revenues surged to NT$6.67 billion, compared with NT$3.9 billion in the first quarter this year, according to a company statement.
On an annual basis, last quarter’s revenues expanded 43.13 percent from NT$4.66 billion over the same period last year.
The company’s combined revenues in the first six months of this year reached NT$10.56 billion, jumping by 42.82 percent from NT$7.39 billion made over the same period last year, according to the company’s filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Shipments of LCD TVs and monitors combined rose 43.05 percent to 375,000 units last month, from 262,000 units a month earlier.
About 30 percent of the LCD TVs shipped are equipped with ultra-high-definition 4K displays, indicating a growing demand for 4K TVs, Amtran said.
During last quarter, Amtran shipped a total of 900,000 units of LCD TVs and monitors, doubling from a year earlier, according to the statement.
On a quarterly basis, that represented a 69.44 percent expansion.
Shares of Amtran declined 0.23 percent to NT$21.6 in Taipei trading yesterday, snapping four straight winning sessions, but outperforming the TAIEX, which dropped deeper at 0.51 percent.
