State-run oil refiner CPC Corp, Taiwan (CPC, 中油) yesterday said that it is to cut gasoline and diesel prices by NT$0.1 and NT$0.2 per liter respectively, as global crude oil prices slumped due to heightened oversupply concerns after OPEC members decided to keep oil output at current levels.
OPEC’s decision on Friday weighed on already falling global crude oil prices after the US reported a jump in commercial crude reserves on Tuesday last week, according to a statement posted by CPC on the company’s Web site.
Global crude dropped 1.41 percent, or US$0.58, to US$40.63 per barrel last week.
The price decline resulted in a 0.82 percent reduction in domestic fuel prices after factoring in the local currency’s depreciation of NT$0.127 versus the US dollar, CPC said.
CPC’s sole local rival, Formosa Petrochemical Corp (台塑石化), yesterday said that it would also lower gasoline and diesel prices by NT$0.1 and NT$0.2 per liter respectively.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, 台積電), the world’s largest contract chipmaker, yesterday said its materials management head, Vanessa Lee (李文如), had tendered her resignation for personal reasons. Nvidia Corp CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) on Thursday met with US President Donald Trump at the White House, days before a planned trip to China by the head of the world’s most valuable chipmaker, people familiar with the matter said. Details of what the two men discussed were not immediately available, and the people familiar with the meeting declined to elaborate on the agenda. Hypermarket chain Carrefour Taiwan and upscale supermarket chain Mia C’bon on Saturday announced the suspension of their partnership with Jkopay Co (街口支付), one of Taiwan’s largest digital payment providers, amid a lawsuit involving its parent company.
