The worldwide shipment area of LCD panels for TVs and PCs rose to a record high last month, according to data compiled by market advisory firm NPD DisplaySearch.
The LCD panel shipment area totaled 13.36 million square meters globally last month, surpassing the 13 million square meters mark for the first time in a single month and breaking the previous record of 12.64 million square meters set in June, according to NPD DisplaySearch data.
Global shipments of LCD panels increased by 6 percent monthly last month to 60.94 million units, NPD DisplaySearch said.
Among all product categories, tablet panel shipments increased by the highest monthly growth rate, 12 percent, to 6.6 million units, while notebook panel shipments grew by 8 percent monthly to 17.3 million units and LCD TV panel shipments increased by 5 percent monthly to 22 million units.
Taiwan’s Innolux Corp (群創) maintained its position as the world’s largest maker of notebook panels last month, the advisory firm said, without disclosing individual shipments or market share.
Shipments of ultra-high-resolution, or 4K, TV panels exceeded 2.3 million units last month, accounting for 10 percent of the overall LCD TV panel shipments.
Taiwanese panel makers shipped a total of about 1 million 4K TV panels last month — about the same total as South Korean manufacturers, according to the NPD DisplaySearch report.
