Tai Tong Food & Beverage Group (瓦城泰統集團) is to open a restaurant today at E-Da Outlet Mall (義大世界購物廣場) in Greater Kaohsiung and one at Uni-Hankyu Department Store (統一阪急百貨) in Taipei by the end of next month.
Tai Tong runs three chains on both sides of the Taiwan Strait: Thai Town Cuisine (瓦城), Very Thai Restaurant (非常泰) and 1010 Hunan Cuisine (湘辣料理).
The Uni-Hankyu eatery is to be the group’s first under a new brand, also serving Thai food.
“Launching more outlets in department stores and malls may help raise demand alongside the retail sector’s sales seasons, such as Mother’s Day,” the group said in a statement yesterday.
Tai Tong has 70 percent of its restaurants in department stores or shopping malls.
Sales linked to Mother’s Day are expected to boost the group’s results this quarter compared with the first quarter, when sales totaled NT$196.62 million (US$6.52 million), up 22.3 percent from a year earlier.
Separately, Gourmet Master Co (美食達人), which operates the 85°C (85度C) coffee chain in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Australia and the US, posted NT$5.6 billion in consolidated revenue for the first four months, up 15.97 percent from a year ago, it said in a statement.
The company attributed the rise to two new US outlets and monthly same-store sales increases in China.
