Yulon Group (裕隆集團) said yesterday that it is planning to recruit about 1,500 employees to expand its business because the group is upbeat about the local car market.
The group, which includes Yulon Motor Co Ltd (裕隆汽車), China Motor Corp (中華汽車), Yulon Nissan Motor Co (裕隆日產) and Luxgen Motor Co (納智捷汽車), is planning to hold a series of job fairs in the first half of this year to seek personnel to work in research and development (R&D), management and marketing.
As the group aims for a larger share of the local car market, it is planning to spend about NT$10 billion (US$338 million) on R&D and manufacturing, and to expand its distribution this year.
Of the NT$10 billion, Yulon will spend more than NT$120 million to upgrade its showrooms in a bid to polish its brand image, the group said.
Last year, car sales in Taiwan totaled 354,585 units.
Yulon said sales for this year are expected to grow to between 360,000 and 370,000 units because the nation’s economy is on the way to recovery.
The group is aiming to sell 108,800 units in Taiwan this year, up from 98,850 units last year, when it took a 27.88 percent share of the local car market.
In China, the group has set a target to sell about 210,000 units this year, including about 60,000 upscale Luxgen cars — higher than the 41,964 units sold last year.
In addition, Luxgen will try hard to further penetrate markets in Russia and the Middle East this year, it said.
