Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd (CPT, 中華映管) will replace Chimei Innolux Corp (奇美電子) as Taiwan’s biggest maker of small and medium panels by the end of this year thanks to a shift in product mix, a Taipei-based industry association said on Thursday.
The Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association said that shipments of small and medium panels will amount to about 1.69 billion units this year, up 21 percent year-on-year from the 1.4 billion units recorded last year on the back of strong demand in the smartphone and tablet PC markets.
Shipments of CPT’s small and medium panels will increase by 42 percent this year from 352 million units last year to reach 500 million units, moving the Taoyuan-based company into the top spot in the market with a 30 percent share, up from 25 percent last year, the association said.
Second-placed Chimei Innolux is forecast to ship 425 million units of small and medium panels by the end of this year. That is the same amount as last year, resulting in a market share loss from 31 percent last year to 26 percent this year.
HannStar Display Corp (瀚宇彩晶) will come in third with a 25 percent market share, as its small and medium panel shipments jumped by 67 percent from 248 million units last year to 414 million units this year.
AU Optronics Corp (友達光電) suffered a year-on-year decline of 14 percent in its shipments.

Gasoline and diesel prices at domestic fuel stations are to fall NT$0.2 per liter this week, down for a second consecutive week, CPC Corp, Taiwan (台灣中油) and Formosa Petrochemical Corp (台塑石化) announced yesterday.
