Many novel products for our furry friends will go on display at the -biggest-ever Taipei Pet Show, which is set to start on Friday, organizers said yesterday.
The annual event, now in its 14th year, will have about 130 exhibitors and 600 booths this year, twice the size of last year, Taipei Pets Appliances Association (臺北市寵物用品公會) chairman Steve Tsou (鄒嵩棣) said at a press conference.
At the opening ceremony, 100 poodles in uniforms resembling the Republic of China (ROC) national flag will march in unison to coincide with the ROC centennial celebrations, he said.

The pre-event press conference gave the impression that the world has truly gone to the dogs. Buying a collar and some bags of feed no longer satisfies these urbane critters. Owners now want to shower their pets with anti-ultraviolet clothing, breath fresheners and health products specially tailored for cats and dogs.
Among the thermal jackets and rain coats, a new product, called “Fly Shoes” claims that it prevents man’s best friend’s paws from getting burned on sunny days or soggy when it rains.
“We just want to provide pets with a better lifestyle and eliminate their inconvenience,” said Hank Hsieh (謝至恆), a designer at PPark Co (寵物工園), the product maker.
Hsieh said his company is already seeking international patents for its invention.
For those who want nothing more than their pets to enjoy living in the lap of luxury, branded leather beds and porcelain bowls will also be available at the show.
Owners can also prevent their pets from getting lost by fitting them with collars that have Global Positioning System capability.
The pet show will run from Friday to July 18 at Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall.

Popular vape brands such as Geek Bar might get more expensive in the US — if you can find them at all. Shipments of vapes from China to the US ground to a near halt last month from a year ago, official data showed, hit by US President Donald Trump’s tariffs and a crackdown on unauthorized e-cigarettes in the world’s biggest market for smoking alternatives. That includes Geek Bar, a brand of flavored vapes that is not authorized to sell in the US, but which had been widely available due to porous import controls. One retailer, who asked not to be named, because
