Acer Inc (宏碁), the world’s second-largest PC brand, yesterday reported a second-quarter profit of NT$3.6 billion (US$112 million), or earnings per share of NT$1.37.
This represented a rise of 55 percent from the same period last year and 9.3 percent from the first quarter.
Consolidated revenues were NT$150.3 billion in the second quarter, up 26 percent year-on-year and 7.5 percent quarter-on-quarter.
Acer also reaffirmed its guidance early last month that sales could see 10 percent to 15 percent sequential growth in the third quarter, despite dropping 37.7 percent year-on-year in July to NT$26.3 billion.
Acer defended the drop in July sales, saying “it was expected” as the company had informed key channel partners and distributors not to stock up much, but instead wait for its rollout of new models using Intel Corp’s new CPU and chipset designs last month and this month.
Meanwhile, Compal Electronics Inc (仁寶電腦), the world’s largest notebook computer contract maker, yesterday said its second-quarter earnings posted year-on-year growth of 99 percent to NT$6.4 billion. The figure is down 25 percent from the first three months.
Revenues in the April-to-June period hit NT$217.1 billion, a rise of 78 percent from a year earlier but were flat compared with first-quarter figures.
The company is scheduled to hold its quarterly conference for investors today at its Neihu (內湖)headquarters.
