CAL's partners in the yet to be named joint venture are Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, QANTAS, Singapore Airlines, Ansett Australia, Royal Brunei, Asiana Airlines and Air New Zealand.
The exchange will mainly include both business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) services. In terms of B2C business, the site will primarily serve as an online travel agency, providing a wide range of travel and travel-related products to customers, including online ticket purchasing, fare information, hotel booking, car hire and tours in order to help consumers make their travel plans.
Meanwhile, the B2B services on the site aim to provide opportunities for travel agencies to enhance their online capacities in a cost-effective manner and offer other travel distribution companies the ability to implement their own customized, private label version of the exchange.
Despite having not yet set any absolute targets for market share, representatives from the venture indicated that they see strong potential in the years ahead. Examples from the US show that 20 percent of tickets are now sold online.

Additionally, they said that the venture welcomes participation from all airlines. Since this is a travel exchange for the Asia-Pacific region. naturally the first priority is to get Asian participants on board.
The airlines involved began negotiations about the Internet site earlier this year and set up an airline task force, assisted by consultants, to ensure the smooth operation of the new site. The venture aims to start operations in the fourth quarter of the year.
Initial services will target Australian and Southeast Asian markets, and then spread to China and the rest of Asia.
