The annual celebration of American Independence Day on July 4 will be marked this year with the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) overseeing the launch of three new US state trade offices in Taipei and the debut of a Web site that will develop business ties between the two countries.
In a recent statement, the AIT Commercial Section announced that next Monday it will join with the Association of American State Offices (ASOA) to present the USA Sources Web site, which is dedicated to smoothing the flow of commerce between importers and buyers from each country.
The opening of trade offices by the US states of Maryland, Delaware and Kansas will bring the number of representative offices of US states in Taiwan to 22.
The establishment of the new trade offices reflects the growing importance of the economic relationship between Taiwan and the US. Two-way trade currently amounts to US$50 billion annually.
