British mobile phone group Vodafone said yesterday it gained 2.7 million new customers in the three months to the end of June, boosting its total subscriber base to 103.9 million. It said 1.3 million of the new customers were acquired through changes in its stake in other companies. Vodafone added that average revenue per user (ARPU) rose to 278 euros (US$436) in Britain from 276 euros a year earlier and to 302 euros in Germany. It said the proportion of its revenues generated by the transmission of data rose to 14 percent in June and to more than 12 percent for the year. Vodafone chief executive Sir Christopher Gent said the figures were in line with the guidance given by the company when it delivered its full-year results.
