Corporate fraud: WorldCom probe halted

WorldCom Inc halted an internal investigation of accounting irregularities at the request of the US Justice Department, which is carrying out its own probe, the Wall Street Journal reported. Government lawyers want to secure interviews with executives and other possible witnesses at WorldCom before company lawyers and officials talk to them, the Journal said. Prosecutors are worried about possible witness tampering.
