Xian, China to be developed

China is planning to turn Xian, the capital of northwest China's Shaanxi province, into the country's largest software processing center in the next five years, state media said. The processing center would employ 100,000 software engineers and generate sales of 20 billion yuan (US$2.4 billion) annually, the official Xinhua news agency quoted Mao Lei, director of the Xian Software Park, as saying. China has already built software bases in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Xian and Chengdu, Xinhua said. The city -- famous for its 2,000-year-old army of terracotta warriors -- is also a technology-intensive city. It has 36 universities, three software colleges and 400 software enterprises with a total workforce of 300,000, Xinhua said.
